Date of construction/Fecha de construcción: 1941.

The architects designed this 10-storey building having in mind New York's Rockefeller Center, hence the hefty set of volumes and stressed verticality. The theater, quite accordingly, was Havana's own version of the Radio City Music Hall. It was part of a large project that also comprised a restaurant and a central tower with 67 high-end apartments.

With its 1750 seats, the theater is almost as splendid as its model. Visiting the interior today is a staggering evocative experience. Jaded but intact, it's like travelling back in time to the day it opened, on March 29th 1941. The theatre has been running a steady programme ever since, offering a all kinds of plays, concerts and shows to the day.

Both the building and the theater are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year.
